Cambodia National Museum

Located in the North of the Royal Palace, the National Museum is easily recognized because of its distinctive rusty-red exterior and traditional Cambodian terracotta roof. Built between 1917 and 1920, the Museum offers a charming setting for a stunning collection of ancient Khmer artifacts. There are more than 5,000 interesting items including an eight-arm statue of Vishnu (7th century), a statue of Shiva (9th century), and a statue of Buddha dating back to pre-Angkorian time.

Tourist would also see a statue of King Jayavarman VII (1181), the Khmer king being credited with the establishment of a network of road in Cambodia, using innovative construction techniques to raise them above the level of swamps and building sophisticated bridges. Also on display are pottery and bronze pieces dating back to the periods of Funan and Chenla (4th to 9th century). Tour guides are available. There are also books and souvenirs on sale inside the museum. No photography is allowed inside the museum, which its opening hours are between 8:00-11:00 and 14:00-17:00.

WAT PHNOM

Wat Phnom, Phnom Penh City

Wat Phnom (វត្តភ្នំ) is the green nature resort in Phnom Penh City. Wat Phnom come from Khmer words Wat mean Pagoda and Phnom mean Mountain. It was built in 1373 with height 27 meters (88.5 ft) above the ground. It also the place for Khmer people to pray Buddha because on the top of the mountain has one pagoda which Khmer people called Wat Preah Chedey Borapaut.

There is one legend related that, Daun Penh, a wealthy widow found the large Koki tree float in the Tonlesap River. In the tree had one bronze statues of Buddha. Penh constructed a small shrine on an artificial hill made by people living the village to protect the sacred statues. Eventually this became a sacred site and sanctuary where people would blessing and pray.

Then it came to the year of snake 1437 suggest King Ponhea Yat ordered to His Excellency Decho Srei to raise the mount even higher when he finished building the new Royal Place in the new city then named Krong Chaktomuk Mongkol or known as Phnom Penh city.
